The editorial was inspired by newspapers, posters, and advertisements from the war years. Emily incorporated a color palette inspired by a 1940 Lucille Ball makeup ad, as well as her very own typeface that she refers to as "Screaming Headlines." The typeface was inspired by wartime issues of the New York Daily Mirror.
