Student project while studying at Texas State University
Spirits of the Southwest is an exhibition catalogue for an exhibit featuring artwork that explores the mysticism of the American Southwest. The exhibition opens a doorway into the culture of the Southwest and moves beyond stereotypes of Native Americans, American Cowboys, and wildlife.
Emily developed the concept of Spirits of the Southwest and virtually curated the art exhibition. She chose bold, expressionistic artwork by Rocky Hawkins, Oleg Stavrowsky, and Carol Hagan to bring viewers a fresh perspective of the American Southwest. In the exhibition catalogue, Emily combined the bold colors of the artwork imagery with strong typography, neutral page backgrounds, and fluid page layouts to captivate the viewers' attention and allow their imaginations to roam long after their visit to the exhibition.
